PINOKIOTHEK DER MODERNE

PINOKIOTHEK DER MODERNE

Right in the heart of Munich’s Pinakothek district, just a stone’s throw from Museum Brandhorst and the Lenbachhaus, there is a space that may be smaller than many art installations, yet larger than some would claim.

The PINOKIOTHEK DER MODERNE is an off-space cabinet measuring a modest 2.0 m x 1.5 m x 0.5 m. Curated by Klaus Erika Dietl and Stephanie Müller and located at Augustenstraße 100 in Munich, it functions like an artistic magnifying glass: focused, condensed, surprising.

Painting, drawing, photography, contemporary literature, conceptual art, and film projects all find a home here, sometimes simultaneously. The space has already become a performance stage, a sleep laboratory and diary, and even a temporary greenhouse. Nothing is excluded; everything is negotiable.

Since 2010, Dietl and Müller have invited artists from around the world to intertwine disciplines and gently unsettle Munich’s comfort zones. Every exhibition is visible 24/7: art without opening hours, without threshold anxiety.

The PINOKIOTHEK DER MODERNE sees itself as a poetic side swipe at big names and grand gestures. It is a place that does not mind being mistaken for something else and proves that attitude does not require square meters.

Selection of previously exhibiting artists:
Alligator Gozaimasu, Aoi Swimming, Max Amling (Super Sweet Reality), Carolin Angele, Jim Avignon, Jutta Baumann, Dunia Barrera, beißpony, Friedrich Boomgaarden, Señor Burns (Red Can Company), C.I.Y. Republic, Klaus Erika Dietl, Thomas Glatz, Tina Griffith, Helena Hartmann, Institut für Leistungsabfall und Kontemplation, Maria Justus, Bettina Mechtersheimer, Heidi Mühlschlegel, Mikio Saito, Oisogashi Myhometown, rag*treasure, ReguRegu, Schnurrbart (Heta Salkolahti – Town of Saints / Veronica Burnuthian – Friends of Gas), Shin Dowon, Birgit Scholin, Anatol Schuster, Bernadette Stadler, Alejandro Valbuena Martinez, Versprechen & Anderes Versagen (Promises & Other Failures), Team Weltretter, Sigi Wiedemann, Carlotta Wirtl and many more.

A space as small as a lie and as long as Pinocchio’s nose.
