About HotSpot of Arts

HOTSPOTS OF ART is a growing online archive that makes both current and historical art spaces in Munich visible whose orientation lies beyond commercial logics. The focus is on spaces, initiatives, and projects whose programs are primarily dedicated to contemporary art, especially the visual arts.

The platform documents existing off-spaces and is continuously expanded to include a historical perspective. It covers initiatives and art spaces that have existed or did exist since 1945 and were active for a minimum period of one year. One-off exhibitions are excluded from the map.

This results in a dynamic cartographic project that documents the development of Munich’s non-institutional art landscape since 1945.

The project is based on an analog city map conceived in 2020 by PLATFORM intern Hanna Banholzer and is now being reissued as a revised online version.
